I find it pretty funny when I read articles online blue light glasses benefits. I just think people that write these articles and the people who read them have such a surface level understanding of the impact light has on human health.
If I were to make a bold claim and say that the reason we see a rise in cancers these days is because of blue light. You might read that and think I’m crazy for saying that, as if it has no basis in science, when in fact just the opposite is true.
I’ll be linking to many studies, articles and research in this article but you can go back and read any of my other articles about light and in each of them, I link to at least 5 or more studies proving what I’m saying.
So what am I saying?
Blue light causes modern diseases. Therefore the benefits of blue light glasses might be construed as preventing these same diseases. In this article on the benefits of blue light glasses I’m going to link to research studies showing how blue light causes particular diseases.
You can assume that the absence of this blue spectrum of light will remediate the health condition it causes.
Blue light glasses are one way to block blue light. The other way to block the blue wavelength of light is to do what we did and install circadian lighting in your home so you have no blue light.
Since most of you are here to learn how to improve your sleep and cure insomnia, we’ll start there first.
Improved Sleep
In my personal experience, wearing blue light blocking glasses have revolutionized my sleep. But that’s completely anectotal information, it’s not proof of anything. But what I can tell you is that I bought my first pair of blue blocking glasses back in 2012 on Amazon. I shared the screenshot of my transaction in some other article I’ve written.
This means I was learning about blue light and sleep at least before 2012.
I wear yellow blue blockers during the day when inside (never outside) and/or on the computer.
Why yellow?
Yellow lets in some blue light frequencies during the day. You want this because not all blue light is bad. Blue light from the sun is very good. You want that kind of blue light. But blue light from devices…..deadly. I’m serious about that.
If you block all blue light during the day, that wouldn’t be in alignment with nature and nature’s laws. The sun is emitting some blue light during the day so by wearing yellow blue blocking glasses during the day you’re mimicking that spectral frequencies of the sun. I also run special software on my computer that copies whatever the sun is doing so that I’m in alignment with nature.
The more in alignment with nature you are, the healthier and deeper you’ll sleep.
It’s how nature actually works.
Isn’t it a strange thought that nature wants you to live according to its laws and it wants you to have the benefits of that.
When sunsets I wear my orange glasses. This is because after the sun sets you’re not supposed to have any blue light.
Then two hours before bedtime I wear my red glasses and I take my 50mg of melatonin.
So that’s my anectotal story about blue light glasses and their sleep benefits for me.
There are studies showing that exposure to blue light reduces sleep and negatively impacts both deep sleep phases and REM sleep phases of our sleep cycles. So it’s possible to deduce that the absense of this blue light would help restore previously experienced levels of both sleep cycles.
The major benefit of blue light glasses is they help you sleep better.
Sleep is the mount Everest of health, disease preventions and longevity. If you can improve your sleep naturally there’s a much higher chance you’ll live a longer, healtheire disease free life.
Your health span will be lengthened.
Eye Diseases
It’s my prediction that the majoriry of the population in twenty to thirty years is going be be blind from being addicted to technology. Look at how much screen time people are racking up each day. Imagine the societyal impact of millions of blind people when we’re in our 70s and 80s?
The system is going to be overwhelmed with health care costs. If you’re looking to get into a business that’s going to be booming in coming decades, become an opthamologist.
Blue light causes massive electron loss in the eye leading to oxidative stress, macular degeneration, myopia, cataracts and glaucoma. It’s causing hypoxia to the eyes.
Your eyes are the only organ you can see outside the body and an extension of your brain. You can see other people’s brains by looking them in the eye. When this organ is exposed to high intensity blue light it causes damage to sensitive tissues causing calcifiication and hypoxia.
I’m telling you, we’re going to have a nation of blind people in the next thirty years. Wait until people begin using augmented reality using either contact lenses or devices like the Apple Vision Pro, it’s going to be all over for people’s eye health.
Dry Eyes
Speaking of hypoxia from a lack of nutrients and oxygen to ocular tissue, this results in dry eyes. Dry eyes is also connected to estrogen dominance and not enough progesterone and testosterone. We know that blue light also has a negative impact on hormones.
Do you see how it’s all connected?
Blue light increases estrogen dominance which lowers testosterone levels which is what’s necessary to have fluid in your eyes that prevents dry eyes.
So you could say that blocking blue light is the antidote to dry eyes.
How do you block blue light?
Blue light blocking glasses of course.
Headaches
Headeaches is anoter major issue these days as more and more people are addicted to their cell phones, iPads and lap tops. If you think that the hypoxia I mentioned ealier stays in the eyes, then you’re wrong.
Since your eyes are an extension of your brain, this lack of oxygen to your brain is linked to oxidative stress which increases cerebral pressure leading to migraines and general headaches.
Blue light is a demon in your life.
Not havingn a headache is one of the many benefits of blue light glasses. 🙂
Eye Strain
Most people call this “digital eye strain” where you’re tensing up the muscles near your ocular cavity. This is going to put unnecessary pressure on all of the muscles that control your jaw and neck. Have you ever noticed your eyes hurt after working on a computer for 8 hours?
I have.
This is all preventiable with blue light blocking glasses.
Hormone Regulation
Exposure to blue light has a negative impact on hormone levels, especially blue light being emitted from devices at the wrong time (night mostly). If you don’t think so did you know that exposure to sunlight in the morning activates the hormone cortisol (otherwise known as the “stress” hormone) while supressing melatonin. Makes sense right becuase when you wake up, you want energy and nature does that for us, as long as we’re watching the sunrise in the morning.
The opposite is also true. Exposure to blue light at the wrong time of day and emitted from unhealthy sources (anything other than the sun) inceases cortisol and supresses melatonin. Blue light also has a negative impact on testosterone levels.
So you could say that blue light glasses benefits you only if you wear them correctly.
One of the benefits of blue light glasses is that they can help you regulate hormone levels by protecting the thyroid and adrenal glands from oxidative stress.
Improved Circadian Rhythm
We know that light directly impacts your hormone levels like melatonin and cortisol but blue light in particular has a negative impact on your circadian rhtym. Human beings are diurnal which means we live by a 24 hour light/dark cycle. This means there are biolgical processes that only happen at certain times of the day.
For example, your body only secrets melatonin from your pineal gland (and your mitochondria) in the presence of darkness.
What happens when we live in a blue lit world where there is no darkness?
You don’t release melatonin so you’re not tired (night owls) and then you’re not sleeping at the right time.
When you sleep certain things happen. If you’re not asleep when those processes are supposed to be happening (the cleansing of toxins out of your brain by your glymphatic is one of many good examples) then you’re just not going to get their benefits.
It’s like if the bus is supposed to pick you up at 11 and you show up at 11:30, you’re just going to miss the bus.
The benefits of blue light glasses is that it more tightly knits you to your diurnal circadian rhythms.
You’ll notice that after you wear blue blockers for an extended amount of time (I recommend 30 days minimum) you’ll get tired earlier and at the same time each night. You’ll wake up earlier and sleep deeper.
It’s kind of like magic how it works.
Mental Health
Depression, additionc, ADD, ADHD, anxiety and other mental disorders are tied to excess blue light exposure. People call scrolling on social media a dopamine addiction. Blue light is in my opinion the primary cause of these health conditions. I have found that the same people that struggle with insomnia are also “Type A” personality types as well as addicted to their screens.
In fact, I have never seen somebody who can’t sleep that’s not also dealing with those other two issues (screen time and/or Type A personality).
Disease Prevention
We know that blue light causes cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, insomnia and more. How does blue light do all this?
There are many ways but the most notable I’ve found in the research I have read is its powerful ability to suppress endogenous melatonin in the body. Melatonin is the number one hormone your body makes to prevent all of these diseases.
So yes there are other ways that blue light plays a role in these diseases but melatonin suppression is the main way that I have studied. Once you go down the rabbit hole that is melatonin, you’ll understand how this works.
If you want to prevent these diseases wear blue blocking glasses.
Blue light glasses benefits not just you but your family as well. The healtheier you are the better man or woman you will be for your husband, wife or kids.
Conclusion
Try my challenge. Buy a pair of yellow, orange and red blue light blocking glasses and wear them correctly for 30 days and you will be absolutely amazed at what they’ll do for your sleep and overall health.
